That is the mark of communism.I strongly oppose that you compare it with nazi symbol.Just as few leaders were brutal does not mean the ideal is based on hatred and evil like nazi.Communism states equality to all...You have been nicely brainwashed by your govt as they want you to blindly hate it...so much so that you wont read a single book what explains what communism is all about. The era you state about was all about brutality..It does NOT denote what communism ultimately wants to achive. It is an evolving idealogy..it can also support multy party democratic system...(The CPIM support this). Your govt wants you to believe that the right to choose between two corrupted parties(all controlled by corporates...think about SOPA act and all the money plain donated to big corporates during depression.) is a big deal.Guess what ..you have freedom..but it actually does not matter cause you cant change anything.I condemn stalin for what he did..but I support my local communist party cause they are working for the people. What can I say...what is true is true.I see it in my very eyes that communists here are the only few people in politics worth some honour. Flame me or do what ever.I dont shift from my belief.Good day.
It is rather ignorant to suggest that the hammer and sickle is the same as the Nazi swastika.
While it is true the Soviet Union committed enough atrocities in its time. Most of them were done under the rule of Stalin, this was during a short and brutal period of USSR's history.
Growing up in a former Soviet state I personally attributed the symbol with everything from unity, multiculturalism and triumph over the Nazi's in World War 2.
Unlike a lot of western propaganda the Soviet Union was not all evil. It provided structure, industrialization, employment, and the dream of Communism. Further the real Marxist socialists were practically the only opposition to the fascism in the beginning of its conception.
According to your philosophy any symbol that can be connected to violence is therefore bad? That list should then include the US Flag, the cross, and the majority of religious symbols.
Communism is inherently evil, just like any other system that denies freedom, and yes, that includes "secular" nation-states such as the US. BTW, the cross is bad. Not only is it a depiction of a torture device, but the symbolism has been used to great effect at stalling human progress for nearly 2000 years.
